Mahtomedi is a city located in Washington County, Minnestota with a population of approximately 7,767. Located between St. Paul and Stillwater, the city of Mahtomedi is considered to be one of the suburbs in St. Paul. The city name originated from the Dakota for White Bear Lake – ‘mató’, meaning the grey bear, and ‘mde’, which means lake. One of the longest establishments in Mahtomedi is a post office, which still remains in operation today on Wildwood Road.

Mahtomedi Fire Department – The Mahtomedi Fire Department is proud to serve more than 13,000 residents in the cities of Mahtomedi, Willernie, Pine Springs and a portion of Grant. In 1933, the department was first established when the Willernie-Lincolntown Fire Department was founded, providing fire protection to the cities of Willernie and Lincolntown. A merger occurred 39 years later with the Mahtomedi Fire Department, resulting in the Mahtomedi Fire Department as we know it today.

Mahtomedi Community Education – The Mahtomedi Community Education promotes citizen involvement and provides lifelong learning opportunities for all district residents – from infants and their parents through senior adults – and every one in-between. When not in use by school or community education sponsored activities, the school facilities are available for use by individuals, groups and organizations.

Mahtomedi Garden Club – The Mahtomedi Garden Club is for people who are advocates for gardening. The club supports gardening for all ages and provides a platform to share interests and ideas among members. The Garden Club also offers educational programs for members and the public while supporting research-based conservation and horticultural practices in our schools and community.
