When you choose to have an accent wall in your home, there are a few things to take into consideration. Accent walls can be a drastic change with wallpaper, a bold paint color choice, or a subtle tone on tone change.
When most people think of accent walls, they usually picture the first two scenarios. Bold, different from the surrounding walls, and a statement.
Some things to think about with accent walls
What does this perspective wall look like? Is it covered with windows and doors? Is it a big, smooth wall? Do you have the artwork for that wall?
This wall will instantly be the focal point of your room. Whether or not you’d like it to be. I tell people that if you’re doing an accent wall – make sure it’s something you want to highlight. Also, make sure the new color will work well with what you currently have.
Print vs wallpaper
When making an accent wall, you can paint it one solid color, you can make a design, or you can do wallpaper. There is an endless amount of ideas out there within the fingers’ grasp of the day-to-day consumer. Which one ends up being the final selection, comes down to personal taste.
Tone-on-tone accent walls
A newer trend within the past few years is tone-on-tone accent walls. Something about tone on tone colors brings such depth and drama to a space. Whether this is done with colors or neutral tones.
Art walls or gallery walls
When it comes down to it, an accent wall isn’t always the best approach to a room’s design. If you’re wanting an accent wall but have chosen not to paint or do wallpaper, an easy substitution is an art wall. An art wall or gallery wall can really be stunning as well as offer a simple design centerpiece in your space. Many people use them to add an inviting splash that opens up conversation with their guests. You can use them in your main living room, staircases or hallways, a guest bedroom, or really any room in the house at all!
