Designing Your Master Bedroom Sanctuary

Sweet Dreams

If your bedroom doesn’t offer you a sanctuary from the craziness of your day, then now is the time to transform it into something that does!  Chances are that you have been spending a lot more time at home, and that includes a lot more time in your bedroom.  The time and money you consider investing in a new look for your master bedroom now will definitely pay off in your future.  Your bedroom make-over project might just mean that you’ll find yourself being a little happier, a bit more organized, perhaps more energized in the mornings, and also a little more at peace with yourself and your surroundings.

Master Bedroom Interior Design

In my opinion, designing your master bedroom is probably more rewarding than designing any other room in your home.  Why?  Because it’s the one room in your home that you can truly allow your personality to shine.  It’s all about you, and you don’t need to share it with everyone else who steps foot in your home!  Remember, this is your space, and it should reflect you.

As with every design project, you need a master plan.  Make sure that the plan fits your needs, your lifestyle, your pocketbook, your timeline and don’t forget that it should ”flow” with the rest of your home.

Consider these steps when coming up with your Master Bedroom plan

Step One

Begin your project by thinking about, and then listing, all the types of activities you’ll want to conduct in your personal sanctuary.  Perhaps it’s writing in your journal, getting caught up on social media, reading a book, watching TV, creating a to-do list, or daily meditation.  Think through what types of things will give you joy in your new master bedroom sanctuary.

Step Two

Look at your bedroom’s structural features and furnishings with a “critical” eye.  Ask yourself what it is you like about the room, and what it is that you wish to change.  Often times it is as vague as noting that you just don’t like the “feel” of the room.  Over the next several days, see if you can pinpoint why that might be.  Is the lighting “right”?  Does the paint color compliment the fabrics in the room?  Is there too much, or not enough furniture in the space?

Step Three

Think about “coloring your bedroom”.  As with most decorating master plans, one of the first priorities is locking in a color scheme.  I have found that letting an inspirational piece like artwork or bedding drive the color scheme works best. Color creates a backdrop and provides direction for everything else that you choose to put in your new bedroom.
