Home Bar Inspiration

Ahh… The Home Bar

The Home bar has been around for a while, from bar carts and chests to elaborate custom cabinets and counters. They are a nice addition that can provide a space for your family and friends to relax in the comfort of your home.

Beyond being able to relax and entertain from the comfort of your own home, having a home bar comes with so many benefits. You can create a whole new living space that matches your style and personality while simultaneously saving money and avoiding the overcrowding and closing time that comes with visiting a traditional bar.

Here are some key tips to keep in mind while creating, renewing, or changing your home bar.

What does a home bar require?

Your home bar is an area devoted to crafting and serving drinks to people while enjoying your beautiful home. Most of the time is it not just a stand-alone bar, but also an entertainment space.

Beyond a possible wet bar and storage for refreshments, there are other features and furniture considerations for your home bar and entertainment area, including, but not limited to:

  • Lounge chairs or a sectional couch
  • A coffee table
  • Barstools
  • A high-top table and swivel chairs
  • A television and sound system
  • Games
  • Empty space to gather and roam around

Your home bar is likely the focal point in the floor plan. However, you should make sure the rest of the room matches the style you are trying to achieve. If you are into bar games like darts, pool, or foosball, include them in the floor plan. Create zones in this space that will speak to you and your guests and provide the proper feel.

Where are home bars typically located?

Figuring out where to put your home bar will vary from one home to the next. Here are some common areas:

  • Basement – Whether you have a finished basement or plan to create a more put-together space in the near future, this is the ideal location for your home bar and entertainment area. It is secluded enough to give the room a unique style without interrupting the style throughout the rest of your home. It also provides a designated “hang out” area that is appreciated by family members of all ages.
  • Spare room – If you have a spare room in your home, maybe one you aren’t sure how to use, make it into your bar area. Create a display of your glassware and alcohol, add some comfortable furniture, and provide a music station. That way you can escape to this room, relax, and enjoy your music while sipping a cocktail.
  • Patio – The patio makes another ideal location for a home bar, especially in the summer. Entertain your guests with refreshing drinks, music, and natural scenery from the backyard.
  • Kitchen – If you don’t have enough room in your home to incorporate a bar, purchase your favorite bar cart and fill it with your alcohol, some glasses, and accessories (we will discuss this further on).
  • Living Room – Another room that people utilize is their living room. It already has comfortable furniture and an entertainment center most of the time. Add an entertainment chest or social cabinet to turn it into a bar area. Bar cabinets are accessible and discreet, and not only are they functional, but they are also often beautiful pieces of furniture.

Accessorizing your home bar

Here is the section all about properly accessorizing your home bar. Making your home bar sophisticated and unique is simple with the right tips and tricks. Here are some ideas to consider:

1. Garnishes

Every well-stocked bar has garnishes on hand. Putting them on display adds character to your bar. If you’re looking for a design idea that lets you decorate with your cocktail supplies, and keep your fresh fruit out in a vase, bowl, or jar – integrate the drink necessities into your visual presentation of the bar.

2. Design for you

No matter what design style you are looking to achieve, make sure it is what makes you happy. You are going to spend a lot of time in this area, it should reflect who you are and ease you into a comfortable state of mind.

3. Glassware

If you want to show guests how serious you are about creating a cohesive entertainment space, impress them by putting matching glassware on display. This will not only draw attention to the possible drinks to be made, but it is an effortless way to accessorize. Pick a set with a fun print or design to really make them pop.

4. Mirrors

If you’re dealing with a smaller space, place a mirror behind the bar. Whether you have open shelves or upper cabinetry, it will help provide more depth. The mirror creates an illusion of space and reflects light out into the room as well.

5. Keep It Stocked

This is a must, for practical and visual purposes. Everything looks better when it is neatly organized. Keeping your stock up will help the bar look more visually appealing and also allow for more serving options.

6. Barstools

It is important that you invest in comfortable bar stools. The last thing you want is guests complaining that they’re uncomfortable while lounging in your home bar.

7. Lighting

Lighting is key when creating the perfect bar atmosphere. Hanging pendant lights with a dimmer is ideal, as they can set the tone for a relaxing vibe no matter the time of day. Other popular lighting options are recessed lighting and fanlights – to keep the air circulating.

8. Accessories

Aside from all of that, I encourage you to purchase a few accessories. Whether it is a few sculptures, artificial plants, candles, etc. this is where you will really be able to tie in your style with the bar atmosphere.
