I grew up in the small town of Browerville, MN and after moving to the big city, I graduated from Roseville Area High School.  I have two sons, my oldest is in the military and is stationed in El Paso, TX, and my youngest just graduated from Centennial High School.

As a pre-teen and teenager, there were two things that I loved – playing my flute and rearranging and organizing my bedroom.  As a result, I ended up being very involved in the school band and decided to become a band teacher.  While attending Gustavus Adolphus College for my undergrad in Instrumental Music Education, I was sometimes preoccupied with my dorm room/apartment furnishings and was often attempting to make it look like my rooms came from a scene out of the Montgomery Wards catalog!

For 25 years I had an amazing career as a middle school band teacher (the last 17 at Centennial Middle School).  During that time, I also continued with my home decorating passion and helped family and friends with their decorating needs in addition to having a small decorating business that kept me busy during the summer months. When my teaching position was reduced to part-time, I decided to go back to school in pursuit of some design education, and then four years ago, I took a huge leap of faith and purchased a Decorating Den Interiors franchise and there began my 2nd career.

Interior Design as a Career

The Decorating Den Interiors franchise has been around for over 50 years and has about 250 business owners/decorators in the US and Canada.  As an independent business owner, I have individualized my name and officially go by Room Reimagined Design by Decorating Den.  There are many advantages to being a part of a bigger organization, including ongoing training of current trends and products, and being able to access all kinds of designer home products at a wholesale cost from over 130 suppliers.  I love the variety and quality of products that I can offer to my clients!

My hope is to help my clients achieve their best lives through my designs.  Many people may not have considered this but investing in design is really an investment of your whole life!  The sectional sofa that allows for the family to cuddle up on movie night, the home office that has a place for everything and keeps you organized (and also accommodates your over-night guests), and the master bedroom suite that you cannot wait to retreat to at the end of a busy day, are all vitally important to how you live!!  Truly – your surroundings inspire your Life!

My Process

When I meet with a client for the first time, we spend a significant amount of time talking about the color, style, and functional vision for the space.  One of my strengths is being able to incorporate existing pieces into a design all while giving the room a whole new look.  Very rarely do I work from a blank slate – most people have favorite things that they wish to work around, and I love the challenge of incorporating them!
