Interior Design Styles For Refreshing Your Living Spaces

Refresh Your Living Space With These Interior Design Styles This Spring

Is springtime leading you to think of refreshed living spaces? If so, keep on reading about gathering space styles that may be the answer.

Before making any decisions (like painting and purchasing products), determine what your style is, and what kind of a story you want to tell with your furnishings. Here are five Interior Design Styles for inspiration in doing just that.

Minimalist Style

The minimalist style uses simplicity and clean lines, with neutral colors and a few pieces of aesthetic decor. Pieces should be sleek and functional, and maximize the use of natural light. The first task to achieve the Minimalist style is to clear the room of anything that you do not need or want. Minimalist is quite literal!

Colors should lean toward neutral, and think of the color palette as simply a background for the furnishings and function of the space. Interesting wall art and simple window treatments can provide a bit of contrast. The result should lead you to feel calm and relaxed.

Bohemian Style

Bohemian, or Boho-style living spaces are inspired by a mix of cultures, and incorporate colorful, eclectic pieces with lots of texture and personality. The use of earthy tones, layered textiles, and a variety of plants will create a cozy and welcoming atmosphere.

If you are creative, and you enjoy musical, artistic, and literary pursuits, the Bohemian style might be the right fit for you! There are very few “rules” when decorating Boho, if you like it – use it!

Industrial Style

The industrial style features an edgy, urban look with a focus on raw materials such as exposed brick, concrete, and metal. Incorporating vintage and industrial-inspired furniture and lighting helps to complete the look. As its name suggests, Industrial style interiors have been inspired by people converting former commercial spaces into residential spaces.

Industrial Interior Design Styles

You will often see metal furniture and accent pieces in an Industrial style setting, and it usually goes in hand with an open floor plan. If you have structural elements such as a brick fireplace, or metal beams, call attention to them.  Be sure to use lighting to create a true Industrial style statement – fixture choices are abundant in this style!

Coastal Style

Coastal-style rooms incorporate natural materials and soothing colors that we associate with the beach.  Various shades of whites, blues, and tans make up most Coastal style color pallets.   Furniture and décor pieces that feature natural textures like sisal, jute, and rope, fit a Coastal style room very well. Don’t forget to finish off the space with ocean-themed accents like shells and driftwood.

Performance fabrics can be an excellent choice if considering upholstered furniture in a light color.  Don’t be afraid to make it a day at the beach, even if you are bound to MN in the middle of winter!

Traditional Style

Traditional style rooms feature classic furniture pieces with ornate details. Rich fabrics for draperies and upholstery are a staple. Often times the use of warm colors like reds and golds prevail, and elegant accents like chandeliers and vintage mirrors are incorporated to create a timeless and welcoming look.

Traditional Interior Design Styles

The use of symmetry is most often present in the Traditional style.  Other elements include oriental rugs, rich wood tones, and elegant lamps and lighting.  Some might say that the Traditional style is outdated, but as the word conveys, it is lasting in favor –  tried and true but ever-evolving.
