The Bathroom
Let’s explore a few of these categories that make a big difference in bathroom renovations and design.
The Vanity
The vanity is an important part of your bathroom, visually and physically. It needs to stand the test of time and be a beautiful piece of furniture in your bathroom. Whether you want to make a statement with contrasting materials and patterns, or you want a simple vanity that blends with the design, make sure the physical aspects and demands are met.
If the bathroom we are focused on is say, the owner’s suite, you need more counter space and drawers. Whether or not it has two sinks, make sure there is physically enough room to house twice the number of personal products. Trust me, you will always need that extra storage, especially in your bathroom.
The Shower & Bathtub
The shower and bathtub are also very important in bathrooms. Not just the visual appeal and physical need, but also the space that is and isn’t taken up by them. You always want to have negative space (spaces where there are no accessories, furniture, décor, etc.) to give the room some “air”. Make sure the layout and flow are inviting, not cramped. You don’t want to have a brand-new bathroom that is hard, or uncomfortable to use. The functionality must take a front seat in this project.
On the visual side, purchase furniture and accessories that are pleasing to your eye. This might mean a few fun tile designs and a beautiful soaker tub, like in the picture above, or some décor that livens up the space. The visual aspects are what will make your bathroom change from something you just used, to a personal retreat.
The Lighting
This is usually one of the last things people think about when it comes to any sort of remodeling, especially in the bathroom. It is a very important part of any room though because we need to see. If you need your bathroom to be illuminated more, invest in some recessed lighting, a beautiful vanity light, sconces, pendants, or even a chandelier.
Another important aspect of the lighting is to make sure you have the correct color. Lights are available in different “warmth” levels, ranging from natural daylight (6500K) to amber or extra warm white (2500K). I typically recommend a soft white (2700K) to a neutral white light (3500K) for residential homes.
