Floral Designs Make a Comeback
When people think of floral patterns or floral designs, they often think of their grandmother’s house. Floral patterns, however, are becoming more popular than ever with a new view on presentation. Wallcoverings, upholstery, draperies, bedding, etc., have all started to show floral designs in a big way.
After decades as pattern non grata, floral motifs are budding again in interior design. ~ Yelena Moroz Alpert
Why have floral patterns returned to interior design, you might ask?
In a recent Wall Street Journal article cleverly titled “Fleur to Ceiling,” writer Yelena Moroz Alpert, suggested that “after decades as pattern non grata, floral motifs are budding again in interior design—letting the Covid-weary and technology fatigued bring ‘nature’ indoors.” The late Mario Buatta, legendary interior decorator selected in Architectural Digest’s Top 100, loved floral chintz fabrics so much that he became known as The Prince of Chintz. He was a friend of Decorating Den Interiors and used to attend many of our events. He’d be heralding today’s return of flower power in spaces.
Above, the bright floral drapery, fun floral artwork, and bold rug really make the room pop and give bright, airy energy. Showcase your favorite floral designs by echoing the colors throughout your room.
Simple integrations
If you are looking for a simple way to integrate floral designs into your home that isn’t as permanent as drapery or wallcovering, try throw pillows. Floral pillows are a fun accent that can be swapped out on a whim. They can provide texture, movement of lines, a variety of shapes and colors, as well as add biophilic design elements.
Try using a few different contrasting colors to brighten things up!
Semi-permanant solutions
This small section of floral wallpaper is just enough to create a healthy, welcoming environment without overwhelming your senses. It also isn’t your standard “go-to floral pattern”. It is a more modern take on floral with water-colored leaves and white flowers.
One of our LIVV Home Collection wallcovering suppliers reports they had a more than 200% growth in floral wallcovering sales in the last two years. We saw more and more florals in upholstered furnishing as went through the most recent Home Furnishings Market in High Point, N.C.
