Styling Tables In Your Home
Décor that is thoughtfully placed can make a drastic change to the environment around it, such as the case in styling tables in your home design. It’s an opportunity to dive into your own personal style and let it shine through. Whether it includes fun, textured throw pillows to update a sitting area, colorful blankets added to a basket or side of an armchair, new pieces of artwork hung that introduce a new color scheme, or a new piece of furniture, the results can be amazing.
Another way to do this is by having décor on your tables – coffee tables, side tables, dining room tables, etc. This doesn’t mean filling the surface with décor, but thoughtfully placing some pieces that showcase your style and work well together.
Here are a few simple guidelines when it comes to decorating your tables:
Don’t overwhelm the surface
You want to welcome “negative space” when placing décor, especially on a table – keep plenty of useable space. The main things to remember are to have varying height, color, texture, and shape. Limit the scene to 3-4 pieces and keep them interesting!
Place a tray
Still not quite sure where to start? Find a tray that sparks your interest and place a few items inside of said tray while keeping the advice above in mind. It helps to define the area while allowing smoother transition when you need a clear the surface quickly or often.
Shift your décor
If you have a long coffee table, consider placing the décor at one end. It creates visual interest and helps provide an unconscious direction for the space. It also provides a practical bonus – having more space to place food and drinks, especially if you’re entertaining.
Switch it out
If you’ve tried to decorate your table surfaces and it just doesn’t seem to fit with what you’re going for, it may be time to find a new table. Whether it is an entry console table, coffee table, side table, or dining table, there are many options to choose from.
Tables are available in a multitude of materials, with a variety of storage solutions and practical purposes. You can also say goodbye to the traditional idea of a coffee table and use an ottoman with a tray instead.
