In Interior Design, there are many different styles. Some are their own, distinguishable category, while others border on similarity. Have you ever thought about what your style is? Is it just one or do you prefer to mix a few together?
Here are the main Interior Design Styles:
- Modern
- Bohemian
- Contemporary
- Rustic
- Industrial
- Eclectic
- Traditional & Transitional
Some of those that branch off these main categories are: French Country, Coastal, Mid-Century Modern, Minimalism, Modern Farmhouse, Art Deco & Asian Zen.
Here, I will go over the three most common styles in more depth: Modern, Contemporary & Transitional.
Modern
The modern design style is all about the clean, sharp lines and minimal color diversity. Most modern color schemes consist of black, white, gray & one very soft or very bold accent color throughout the decoration.
Contemporary
The contemporary interior design style is often mixed up with modern design since they both are often light, airy design styles. One big difference between modern and contemporary, though, is the lines. In Contemporary design, there are softer lines, lots of curves, and rounded objects. Contemporary also feels more friendly and welcoming versus the starkness of modernism.
Transitional
The transitional design style is a mixture of Modern and Traditional. In Transitional interior design style, you utilize traditional furnishings and mix them with modern elements to keep the room a good mixture of the two. It means keeping that warmth and relaxed feeling of the traditional aspect and mixing it with the fun, geometric, and clean lines of modernism.
